Katherine - Baltimore, MD
Katherine graduated from the University of Maryland Clark School of Engineering in 2018 with a B.S in Engineering and a citation in Business focused on technology innovation. Following graduation, she worked internationally as an engineering consultant and passed her Professional Engineering exam.
In 2021, Katherine decided to pursue medical school. She completed her post-baccalaureate studies at the University of Maryland while continuing to work full-time as a consultant engineer at Accenture. She also became a prolific medical researcher with several publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, developed prototype medical device designs for drug development trials, and volunteered extensively within her local community as a hospice and Red Cross volunteer.
Katherine is now a medical student and researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine where she plans to complete a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and a fellowship to become a sub-specialist for both pediatric and adult patients. Katherine's ambition is to become a fierce advocate for her patients and a leader in medical innovation.
Anna - Carrboro, NC
Anna is a second-year veterinary student at North Carolina State University's (NCSU) College of Veterinary Medicine. After earning a B.S in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she decided to attend NCSU for a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Anna has been a disability advocate during her time at UNC and NCSU, where she continues working to improve accessibility on campus for students with a wide range of disabilities. She is an active mentor for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Peer Mentoring program where she volunteers to provide support to other CF patients. After graduation, Anna intends to help people and their pets as a companion animal veterinarian. Additionally, she plans to give back to her community by volunteering with animal welfare and public health programs such as Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return initiatives for feral cat populations. She lives with her dog, Hamilton, and cat, Altair. In her spare time, Anna enjoys spending time with her family, reading, hiking, camping, and doing crossword puzzles.
Else - Fairbanks, AK
Else is a senior at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. She is majoring in Biology with minors in Exercise Science and Music. Else has been a research participant in many clinical trials for CF modulator therapies and is planning to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing degree following the completion of her undergraduate studies. She is excited to work in healthcare and hopes to make a difference in peoples’ lives through clinical research. At school, Else works in an exercise science lab conducting undergraduate research and is an academic peer advisor. She is also an active member of the school of music, leads trips for the outdoor program, and is involved in a variety of athletic clubs. She loves skiing, climbing, exploring The Pacific Northwest, and experiencing everything Puget Sound has to offer. Else is very grateful for this 3rd ENF award.
Jacob - San Francisco, CA
Jacob is a medical student at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. After graduating from Stanford University in 2021 with a B.S with Honors, Jacob worked for 1.5 years at Genentech doing drug research and development for neurological disorders. Now in medical school, Jacob is doing Anesthesia research in the lab of Dr. Jonathan Pan at UCSF, is UCSF's medical student delegate to the American Medical Association, and is Co-Coordinator of HealthLink - an extracurricular program that offers 80 local high school students education and mentorship about different careers in healthcare. After getting his MD, Jacob hopes to complete an Anesthesiology residency. Ultimately, Jacob hopes to combine his experiences as a CF patient with his medical training to care for patients, advance medicine through research, and improve access to care through patient-centered health policy.
Violet - Plano, TX
Violet is a freshman at the University of Texas in Austin, TX. She is majoring in English and hopes to become a writer. Violet graduated Summa Cum Laude from high school and was a member of Varsity Art and the President of her school’s National Art Honors Society. She has earned numerous awards from Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, Visual Arts Scholastic Events, and her school district. In addition, one of Violet’s art pieces was selected as one of only 127 pieces nationwide to be displayed in the 2023 NAHS Art Call Exhibit. Her work focused on the identity of a diseased individual, a concept she explored in AP Studio Art during her senior year of high school. Through her work, she hopes to bring representation and acceptance to all the weird kids who spend their days reading fantasy novels, just like she did when she was young.
Joshua - Gilbert, AZ
Joshua is a senior at Arizona State University (ASU) pursuing a double major in Marketing (Professional Sales) and Sports Business with a certificate in Applied Business Data Analytics. Joshua is a part of many different organizations within ASU including the American Marketing Association, the ProSales Club, the Sports Business Administration, and the Sundevil Roundnet club. He has participated in sales competitions including earning second place and team MVP in a Cintas Roleplay competition this past April.
Faith – Honolulu, HI
Faith currently lives in Hawai’i and attends Gordon College, just outside of Boston. She is a junior majoring in piano and is a member of Gordon College’s Global Honors Scholar cohort. She enjoys studying with her professor, Dr. Alina Polyakov, and performing classical piano repertoire. Additionally, she accompanies the Men’s Choir and has experience accompanying soloists and performing in chamber groups. In her spare time, she can be found teaching piano lessons, going to the symphony, or traveling. She hopes to accompany more and is pursuing further study creatively working with another performing artist.
Samantha – Baton Rouge, LA
Samantha is a junior at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. She is majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice and minoring in Sociology. She plans to use her degree to reach out and assist groups in bettering their own lives when they do not get the help they need. Samantha earned an academic letter all four years of high school and graduated with honors earning a Spanish seal of biliteracy and an AP Scholar award. While in high school she also earned service awards for her mission trips and volunteer hours, and participated in various clubs including ambassadors, BETA club, and National Honor Society. At the University of Mississippi Samantha has been awarded the Provost Scholar and is a member of Chi Omega Fraternity’s philanthropy committee. She hopes to live her life constantly improving and bettering the lives of others by assisting them any way she can.
