Brandon - Mantorville, Minnesota
Brandon graduated Magna Cum Laude from Minnesota State University, Moorhead, MN
with a B.A. in Biology and minor in Chemistry.  He is now in the Physician Assistant
Program at the University of Wisconsin,La Crosse. His experience as a CF patient has
taught him compassion, understanding and empathy. Brandon’s goal is to use these
skills as a Physician Assistant in cardiovascular or orthopedic surgery.  He has been a
fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the past 22 years. In addition, he was
captain of the track & field team at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, volunteer in
the health center emergency room, and project volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

James - Esperance, New York
James earned his B.S. in Adolescent Education – Special Studies and History (dual
major) from the State University of New York, Oneonta, NY. He is now in the first year of a
Masters program in History at the State University of NY in Albany. His Masters work will
focus on Russian religious and cultural history. Upon completion James wants to teach at
the grades 7-12 level. His goal is to provide a positive role model, who encourages and
empowers his students. James has been active in the CF community as a participant in
Great Strides, an archery shoot participant (CF fundraiser) for the past 7 years, and a
mentor to younger CF patients. In addition he has been a fundraiser for St. Jude’s
Hospital for Children for the past 3 years, an assistant scout master in the Boy Scouts,
and a member of the volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Luke - Elliott City, Maryland
Luke is a freshman Pre Med/Biology major at Grove City College Grove City, PA. Luke
has begun to prepare for a medical career through studies in the Applied Health
Academy as a high school student.  He worked 8 hours per week in a clinical setting.
Luke mentored with an  orthopedic surgeon in an outpatient and ambulatory setting.  He
has been an active fundraiser for CFF for many years. He is a speaker at CF events and
has also filmed and presented a fundraiser video of life with CF. Luke has been a
volunteer for the Salvation Army at a Baltimore soup kitchen at Christmas time. He was
an all county quarterback in high school. Luke went 48 – 0 as a starter and lead his team
to two state championships.

Rebecca - Cheshire, Massachusetts

Scott - West Orange, New Jersey
Scott graduated with a B.S. in Ecology and Natural Resources from Rutgers University in
New Brunswick, NJ.  He is now in the 2nd year of a Masters program in Biology and
Evolution at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ. Scott is an ardent outdoor
enthusiast who plans to use his education and talent to conserve and protect precious
natural resources. He is a member of the Student Conversation Association ( SCA) and
has over 1300 hours of conservation oriented volunteer work to his credit. He is also a
member of the SCA Alumni Editorial Board.  This year he received a grant from the
Massachusetts Endangered Species and Natural Heritage Program to support the
purchase of equipment and materials related to his thesis research. Scott has been
active in CF fundraising since childhood.

Sheldon - Marlborough, Massachusetts
Sheldon is a sophomore Art Education major at the University of Massachusetts, North
Dartmouth. He is motivated by CF to achieve beyond what might be expected and to
reach goals that seem unobtainable. He hopes to bring this perspective to his own
classroom as an Art Educator. He was elected class of 2012 representative to the
Student Senate at U Mass Dartmouth. Sheldon has been recognized for the education
and awareness work he does in the field of CF. He has spoken to high  school genetics
and biology classes, U Mass Dartmouth, Quinsigamond Community College, and U Mass
Memorial Hospital Medical School. He has been a volunteer in Great Strides for 17 years
and a participant in Relay for Life and Habitat for Humanity.

William - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania
Will is a senior at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA double majoring in Biology, and
Exercise and Sport Science. His personal experience fighting CF with exercise has
helped shape his goal to earn his DPT (Doctor of Physical Training) and become a
Physical Therapist.  Will has worked the past 2 years in the sports department for
Ursinus.  He is trained in both First Aid and CPR, which qualifies him as a first responder
to injured athletes on the field.  Will’s service to Cystic Fibrosis takes the  role of
participation in clinical research studies. Clinical studies require considerable time
commitment and discipline and are critical to the development of science and
pharmaceuticals towards a cure for CF.

Katharina - Deposit, New York
Katharina is a freshman at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, New York. She is majoring in
Elementary Special Education. Katharina’s goal to make a difference in the lives of children
with special needs was shaped by her experience as a volunteer in elementary classrooms as
well as her work in Special Olympics. She is particularly interested in working with children with
Downs Syndrome. Her knowledge of the Spanish language taught Katharina how important it
is to be multilingual. At Cazenovia she plans to learn American Sign Language to better relate
to and reach children in the Special Education program. Katharina is very active in both
church and community service. She is an Assistant Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible
School group leader. She has donated her hair to Locks of Love three times and regularly
participates in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides Walk and the Relay for Life.

Simmons - Charlotte, North Carolina
Simmons is a junior majoring in Public Health, with a minor in Social Work, at the University of
South Carolina in Columbia. She credits her parents’ dedication to community service with
underserved populations as a model for her goals. Her experiences with CF have given
Simmons a deep sense of gratitude for her accessibility to health care and an acute
awareness of the lack of such access for minority and impoverished populations. Her goal is to
enter the Peace Corps after graduation, hopefully serving in Africa, where she can gain
experience in multiple disciplines such as personal health education, teaching environmental
awareness and sustainability, and food security through nutrition and agricultural efforts. She
has been an outreach leader in the annual family mission to inner city Washington, DC and
has provided music to a vacation bible school each summer.  Simmons has been a speaker on
behalf of CF at many events and the keynote speaker at several. This is her second ENF
scholarship award.

Travis -  Newport, Ohio
Travis is a senior at Marymount Manhattan College in New York and majors in Acting and
Writing for the Stage. His goals are to work as an actor, run his Foundation, and make a
difference in the world. Travis
is President and Founder of the Travis Flores Children’s Foundation (www.tfcf.org), which
currently provides computers to children frequently quarantined in the hospital.  As it grows,
Travis hopes The TFCF  will also provide education and financial assistance to families whose
children are affected by life threatening illnesses and also fund research. Travis authored
“The Spider Who Never Gave Up,” a children’s book about a spider named Sparkey who,
despite adversity and challenges in his life, remained a tenacious, persistent, positive thinking
and determined spider. Sparkey’s life is similar to that of Cystic Fibrosis patients.

Dana - Portland, Oregon
Dana is a senior majoring in Applied Linguistics at Portland State University, Oregon. This is
her second ENF scholarship.  She has always had a strong interest in foreign languages and
culture and hopes to pursue her PhD in Romance Linguistics at the University of Oregon.
Dana’s goal is to work in the field of literary translation, which will provide flexibility in work
venue and help her maintain her health. While an exchange student in Italy she was a member
of the Italian Red Cross and she has mentored children in Italian. She is an active CF
fundraiser, working as team leader in the annual Great Strides walk, serving as the current
Great Strides Event Chair in the CFF Washington chapter, and co-chairing the Wine Tasting &
Auction event. She received the Student Excellence Recognition & Award from the Board of
Trustees of Columbia Basin College.

Jamie - Lapeer, Michigan

Graham - Vista, California
Graham is a freshman majoring in Graphic Design and Cinematography at Brigham Young
University in Provo, Utah. Graham sees his life as he sees his art, starting with a blank canvas
and adding layers of background, foundation, and borders upon which to tell a story of life:
experiences and lessons. He has a strong foundation built on family and church upon which to
begin the story of his life as he goes to college and begins a career. According to Graham,
“his masterpiece is not yet complete.” Graham was a four year varsity member of both the
Track and Field and the Cross Country Team. Additionally, he was a two year captain of the
Cross Country team.  He was on the Union Tribune All-Academic Team and earned National
All American honors. He is President of his church Youth

Rebecca - Cheshire, Massachusetts
Rebecca is a senior at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA majoring in
English Communications and Creative Writing. She intends to pursue a Masters Degree in
Education and become a teacher. This is Rebecca’s second year as an ENF scholarship
recipient. She is very active in the Mass College Dance Company as a dancer,
choreographer, vice president and board member. She also teaches hip hop dance at a local
studio. She was a volunteer choreographer for the annual Jimmy Fund (childhood cancer) for
several years. She has appeared on Public Television to speak on “The Effects of Living with
CF.”  Rebecca has been a volunteer and kick off speaker for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Great Strides fundraiser in Berkshire for many years and a volunteer at the NYC marathon CF
fundraising event by the Boomer Esiason Foundation.

Molly - Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Kyle - Chicago, Illinois
Kyle is a senior majoring in Finance and Marketing at DePaul University, Chicago, IL. Kyle was
also awarded an ENF scholarship last year. He enjoys working with people and business and
intends to parlay that into a career in business management. He has narrowed his focus
towards management consulting and will likely pursue an MBA degree in graduate school. Kyle
has been active as a team leader managing 5 students in fundraising to award scholarships to
DePaul University to Chicago Public School students. He continues to work with Children’s
Memorial Hospital at Northwestern University on the subject of nasogastric (NG) tube feeding
in Cystic Fibrosis. Kyle was featured in a booklet on NG tube feeding a few years ago and has
recently completed work with the Memorial Hospital CF center staff to produce an educational
and instructional video on this subject.

Diana - Seaford, New York

Elizabeth - Coral Gables, Florida
Elizabeth is a freshman majoring in nursing at Florida International University in Miami. Elle
wants to become a nurse practitioner specializing in the area of organ transplants. At age 25,
she had a double lung transplant and last year experienced kidney failure as well. Her career
goal is to help and encourage patients and their families who are faced with serious medical
conditions and the prospect of transplantation. She completed an internship with the
Transplant Foundation and now volunteers as a fundraiser and educator. Elle is a mentor to
other transplant patients. She also promotes the importance of being an organ donor. Elle
also volunteers with CFF and has spoken at several CFF events. At Christmas time she
organizes a toy drive for the children in Holtz Children’s Hospital.

Kristi - Minneapolis, Minnesota
Kristi is a returning adult student in the senior class at the University of Minnesota,
Minneapolis majoring in Art Education and Visual Art with a minor in Art History. This is her
second award of an ENF scholarship. Kristi spent several years in foster care and became a
ward of the state at age 18. Her career goal is to become an art educator as well as a visual
artist. Kristi feels she can teach by example that her students do not need to be limited by their
past. Whether being in foster care or having a disability, each can become who and what they
want to be in life. She spent four years working in an after school program as a youth leader
with children from kindergarten to the 6th grade. Kristi is a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation, the CF Association of North Dakota and Camp Get-A-Well-A.
