


Meghan Nadeau, Ticonderoga, New York
Meghan, age 22, graduated this year from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY with a Bachelor's degree
in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and Women’s Studies. She was the class Salutatorian
and earned many academic awards and honors. This fall she began studies for her Masters in Social
Work at the highly regarded Columbia School of Social Work in New York. Meghan’s long term goal is
to earn her PhD and become a college professor. Meghan is very active in community service. Her
efforts include organizing and delivering “spring baskets” to children at Albany Medical Center Hospital,
volunteering at a local soup kitchen and building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Michelle Green, Medina, Ohio
Michelle, age 18, graduated from high school this year and completed 5 college courses at Akron
University as a high school senior for which she earned Dean’s List recognition. Michelle will attend the
College of Medicine, School of Allied Medical Professions at Ohio State University in Columbus this
fall. Her goal is to follow her love of athletics and become an athletic trainer or physical therapist. She
will be the first in her family to receive a college degree. In addition to her many school activities:
women’s ice hockey team and assistant coach, softball team, and concert band, Michelle is active in
both Cystic Fibrosis education and fundraising.

Charlotte Reardon, Olney, Maryland
Charlotte, age 20, will begin her senior year this fall at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY,
where she is pursuing a degree in Health Sciences. On campus, Charlotte serves on the Executive
Board of the Health and Society Undergraduate Council. Post graduation, she plans to earn a Master’s
Degree In Public Health. Charlotte credits athletics with helping her manage CF. She is an avid runner
and member of the U of Rochester cross country and indoor track teams. Charlotte has been a Cystic
Fibrosis spokesperson and fundraiser and also organized a fundraiser for Prevent Child Abuse America
each of the last 3 years.

Nicole Matthews, Mooers, NY
“Receiving this scholarship is not only an honor, but also proves what I have known all along….that all
individuals with cystic fibrosis (and their families) are a large family who take care of one another. I
look forward to being able to give back to the community….”
Nicole, age 29, married, earned a B.A. degree in Psychology from Plattsburgh State University of New
York in 2000. She is currently enrolled in a three year degree program, at Plattsburgh State University,
leading to a Masters in School Psychology and a CAS in counseling. After graduation she hopes to
work as a school counselor. In addition, she plans to continue her use of hippo therapy with
underprivileged, disabled and terminally ill children. Hippo therapy involves the use of horses to create
therapeutic benefits. Nicole volunteers in a hospice program and has regularly worked with autistic
children for many years.
Mark, San Diego, CA
Mark, age 25, is married to Julie, who is serving on active duty in the U. S. Navy. Mark is in his senior
year at Washington State University, Pullman, WA and is the first person in two generations to attend
college. His degree will be in Business Administration with an emphasis on International Business.
Mark is concerned with the potential nuances of tax filing for individuals with CF and plans to offer free
tax services to individuals in need. Mark and his wife Julie are very active in the CF community in both
fundraising and awareness/support. They are cofounders of a website dealing with CF issues,
particularly male infertility (cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com).
Steven Graham, Kingsburg, CA
“CF has taught me more about patience, empathy and being conscientious. But most importantly, it
has taught me to live a strong life.”
Steven, 31, earned a B.A. in History from California State University, Fresno in 2000. After receiving a
bilateral lung transplant at the University of California San Francisco in December 2002, he then
completed his Masters degree in History from CSU Fresno in 2003. He is currently completing first
year course work towards a law degree from San Joaquin College of Law, Clovis, CA. He was voted
Student of the Year 2005 by his first year classmates. Steven has been active in community affairs as
well as in his school. He has served as an intern in the State Legislature, representative to the Student
Bar Association and Academic Senate Representative at CSUF. Steven intends to use his legal
education in the field of public service and to become a strong voice for the CF community.
Dylan Mortimer, Brooklyn, NY
Dylan, age 26, married, was raised in St Louis, MO and now resides in New York City. He earned a
Bachelors of Fine Arts from Kansas City Art Institute in 2002 and is now in his final year at The School
of Visual Arts where he will complete his Masters in Fine Arts. He has been a community activist in a
number of areas such as working in Special Events for Narcotics Anonymous, leading a community art
project for students from the Kansas School for the Deaf, helping battered women through art
programs, and raising community awareness of homelessness in Kansas City through a community art
program. He has been particularly involved in church charity projects and in the use of creative visual
and performing arts in church services. His goal is to find creative ways to encourage people to ask
important questions in their lives.

Amy - Pasadena, CA
Amy, age 26, graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2003 with a B.S. in
Business and a B.A in International Relations. This fall she left her employment with a major
pharmaceutical company to pursue an MBA degree at the Marshall School of Business at USC. Her
career goal is to join the fight to cure CF by working for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) and
becoming a leader in that organization. She is currently active as a featured speaker, fundraiser and
volunteer for CFF. In the community, Amy has mentored underprivileged youth in South Central L.A.
She is also active in Soldier’s Angels, an organization that writes letters and sends care packages to
deployed U.S. soldiers.
Amberlyn Fett - Dripping Springs, TX
Amberlyn, age 18, is an ingoing freshman at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX. She will major in
Kinesiology (the study of mechanics and anatomy of human movement). Her goal is to earn an M.S. in
Pediatric Physical Therapy. Amber is President of “Amber’s Angels”, an organization she founded as a
high school freshman that raises funds to purchase and distribute gift bags to children hospitalized at
Christmas-time. Amber has received the Central Texas American Red Cross Youth Good Samaritan
Heroes Award and the TLU Heritage Award, which recognizes students who are actively involved in
their schools, churches, communities and who demonstrate leadership potential.
Tiffany Stein - Encino, CA
Tiffany, age 18, graduated from Calabasas High, a California Distinguished and Blue Ribbon school.
She is a freshman at Florida International University majoring in Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology in
the Honors Program. Tiffany will be the first in her family to graduate from college. Her career goal is to
become a forensic chemist. Tiffany was captain of her high school swim team, junior and senior years,
and she taught swimming to young children. She is active in Project Chicken Soup, which prepares
and delivers food to homebound AIDS patients.

Katie Leighton - Bar Harbor, ME
Katie, age 19, is a sophomore at the University of Maine, majoring in Physical Education and Human
Kinetics. She is a cheerleader for the U of Maine Black Bears and has begun volunteering at Eastern
Maine Medical Center as a hospice worker on the pediatric floor. She is active in the CF Foundation, is
co-chair of the Bar Harbor Great Strides Walk to Cure CF, and mentors a younger girl with CF. Katie is
a past State of Maine Ambassador and a speaker for the Children’s Miracle Network. She was
recently chosen as the Bar Harbor/Mount Desert Island Young Woman of the Year. Katie’s career goal
is to work with children as a physical education teacher.

Brittney Dye - Edmond, OK
Brittney, age 26, is a 2004 graduate of the University of Houston in Houston, Texas with a B.S. in
Kinesiology. She is currently in her third year of a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Langston
University in Langston, Oklahoma. Brittney was a 4 year member, and 3 year letterman, of the
University of Houston’s Division I swim team. Brittney was selected Athlete of the Year at the Sooner
State Games. She was chosen from 8,000 athletes in 12 different sports. Brittney has been active in
the Special Olympics for a number of years and participates in several programs to paint houses and
collect clothing for the needy. Her goal is to lead a physical therapy clinic that focuses on positive
encouragement techniques in the rehabilitation process.
Mark Gammon - Redford Township, MI
Mark, age 37, graduated in 1993 from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan with a B.A. in Finance, with
Distinction. He is currently a Master’s degree candidate at Walsh College. Mark, who has had both a
bilateral lung and kidney transplant, is very active in CF volunteer work. He is a board member of the
Michigan Pulmonary Disease Community Inc, which actively serves and supports the CF community.
He is the founder of a transplant support group, which includes individuals who have received a
transplant and those on the waiting list. He speaks frequently throughout the state of Michigan on
behalf of Gift of Life, an organ donation awareness program. Mark’s post graduation goals are to secure
a corporate career in the financial industry, marry, and devote additional time within the Michigan CF
community.
Samantha Monson - Denver, CO
Samantha, age 26 and married, earned a B.A. degree in Psychology, Summa Cum Laude, from the
University of Colorado in 2003. She is in her third year of a Doctoral program in Clinical Psychology in
the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver. Samantha is specializing
in Health Psychology. She is currently a practicum student on the Interdisciplinary Pain Team, Denver
Veterans Medical Center and was previously an extern at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine-
Burn Unit at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She is very involved in community service
and serves as both a volunteer and national spokesperson for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Samantha’s goal is to work in the area of clinical therapy particularly with individuals affected with
chronic illnesses and those connected to them (parents, siblings, and significant others).
Michelle Jones - Montara, CA
Michelle, age 20, is in her second year at the University of California, San Diego. She majors in
Ecology, Animal Behavior and Evolution. Her goal is to earn a Ph.D. and do research in marine
sciences. She is already doing original research on harbor seals at UCSD. Michelle is active in
community service including the CFRI Mother’s Day Tea fundraiser, volunteer work for Scripps Birch
Aquarium and for the San Diego Oceans Foundation. She is a recent recipient of the Heroes of Hope
award presented by Genentech to recognize inspirational people affected by CF. Michelle is a
classical pianist, kayaks regularly and is a member of UCSD’s Masters swim program.
Patrick Robinson - Sandown, NH
Patrick, age 18, is a freshman at Boston University (BU) in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been
accepted in BU’s Honors Program and will major in Biology and Neuroscience. In high school Patrick
was a four year member of the cross country team, a three year member of the marching band and a
two year participant on the ski team. He rose to the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts and
performed many community service projects including yard work and food pantry work for the elderly.
Patrick is active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a fundraiser and has spoken at several New
England Chapter events. His goal is to attend medical school and pursue a career in research.

Ann - Charlotte, North Carolina
Ann is an ingoing freshman at the University of South Carolina in the College of Engineering and
Computing. She is majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Ann has been very active in her church as a
Vacation Bible School leader and member of the student ministry youth council. She was co-chair of
the task force to restructure youth ministry. Each summer she is an outreach leader in the family
mission to provide music to a vacation bible school to inner city Washington, DC. As a 7th grader Ann
began speaking at fundraising events for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She has been a speaker on
behalf of CF at many events and the keynote speaker at several.

Casandra - Lapeer, Michigan
Casandra is a junior at Western Michigan University. This is her third year as an ENF scholarship
recipient. Casandra continues towards her Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Voice
Performance. Her goal is to earn a graduate degree and sing professionally. At some point she may
become a teacher of music and voice. Ultimately Casandra looks forward to marriage and having a
family. She is a member of the WMU Chorale, a nationally recognized group. This past summer the
group was invited to perform in the Classical Music Festival of Austria. Casandra is also accomplished
in violin and percussion. She currently teaches voice and continues to be involved in church service
projects and community programs. Casandra has been an active fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation and has appeared many times as a soloist.
Ryan - Rockville Centre, New York
Ryan, age 17, is a freshman in the Kelley School of Business at the University of Indiana, Bloomington,
IN. His study focus is marketing. After completion of his Bachelor degree Ryan intends to earn a law
degree. His career goal is to become an agent in the sports or entertainment field. Ryan was the New
York State officer during the 07-08 school year for DECA, which is an internationally recognized
student-run association that serves to prepare students for careers in marketing, management and
entrepreneurship. His international marketing project was the overall winner in NY state and received a
certificate of excellence on the national level as a finalist. He has participated in model United Nations
competitions, worked for Habitat for Humanity and sponsored micro loans to small businesses in
developing countries through Kiva. Ryan is an active fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and
has organized a state wide project to raise awareness and funds.

Christina is a freshman at Loyola University of Chicago majoring in Social Work. Her life goal is to help
other people and make a difference in their lives. She would specifically like to work in the field of Child
and Family Services. Christina is active in church work, serving as a musician at liturgy services. She
is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity dedicated to doing community work.
Christina and her family are active fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and have been the #1
fundraising team for the Great Strides at their walk site.
Katie - Bar Harbor, Maine
Katie is a junior at the University of Maine majoring in Kinesiology, Physical Education and Health
Education. This is her third year as an ENF scholarship recipient. She is a cheerleader for the U of
Maine Black Bears and has competed in the National Collegiate Cheerleading Competition for the past
to years. Katie is active with the CF Foundation serving as co-chair of her region’s Great Strides walk
and fundraising through letter writing. She initiated a program to raise CF awareness on the U of Maine
campus. Katie is a speaker on behalf of Children’s Miracle Network and works annually at their
radiothon. Katie wants to work with children as a physical education and health education teacher.
William L. - Baldwinsville, New York
Bill is a freshman at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. He is majoring in Computer Science with a
minor in Criminal Justice. Bill would like to work for the U.S. National Security Agency in the field of
counter-terrorism. He has been active in his church youth group with community service projects,
music ministry and ministering in a nursing home. Bill has been active as a CFF fundraiser for the past
11 years. He was selected Youth Volunteer of the Year in 2004 and 2007 and recognized as the top
youth fundraiser for the Syracuse area Great Strides walk in 2007. Bill has also been a speaker for CFF
at several events.

Andrew - Killingworth, Connecticut
Andrew is a freshman at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He is majoring in Game
Design and Development. Andrew’s passion for gaming developed during a number of extended
absences in middle school due to his health condition. He found these absences very isolating from
his peers and turned to on-line video gaming to stay connected. He subsequently co-founded and was
President of the gaming club at his high school. Andrew is a leader in a support group for high school
students with chronic illnesses. He was a volunteer in his town recreation department and at a nursing
home/rehab center. He has been active in school as a participant in the model UN program, member of
SADD, peer mentor and member of the Drama production club. For the past seven years he has
organized a team for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides walk.
Katherine - Amherst, New York
Katherine is a freshman at State University of New York at Geneseo. She is double majoring in Music
and English/Creative Writing. Katherine has studied cello since age 4 and now studies privately with
the principal cellist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She is a member of a quartet which plays for
weddings, dinner parties and benefit concerts. She has been a member of the pit orchestra for a
number of theater productions. In 2006 Katherine wrote and published “With Every Breath,” a collection
of stories by and about people living with Cystic Fibrosis. All proceeds from the book, available through
Amazon.com, go toward CF research and care. Katherine has served on the CF Advisory Panel of
Children’s Hospital of Buffalo since 2004. She has participated in the hospital’s fundraising phone a
thon and has volunteered for clothing and toy drives at St Luke’s Mission, a shelter in Buffalo.
Katherine organized benefit concerts with local rock bands to raise money for CF.
