Jessica - Berwyn, PA
Jessica is a freshman at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts
majoring in Economics and International Affairs.  Her life goal is to work
in a philanthropic career helping impoverished people in the developing
world, particularly Africa. Jessica is currently an intern in Geneva Global,
a leading philanthropic advisor. She is working on a project specifically
aimed at female empowerment in Bangladesh. Jessica served on the CF
Youth Advisory Committee at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia and is
an annual participant and fundraiser in the CF Great Strides walk. She
was a member of the National Honor Society, varsity member of her high
school track and field team, peer tutor to middle school students and
tennis coach to 1st - 4th graders.

Katelyn -  North Attleboro, Massachusetts
Katelyn is in her 1st year of a 2 yr Masters program in Occupational
Therapy at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She
received her Bachelors Degree with Honors in Communication Sciences
and Disorders from Worcester State College, Worcester, MA. She did an
internship at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, RI assisting in
audiological asessment of children from birth to age 5. Prior to her
beginning grad studies Katelyn worked as a Speech-Language
Pathology Assistant in an elementary school. Her career goal is to return
to work with this population. Katelyn has been a team leader/fundraiser
for the CFF Great Strides walk for the past 8 year and participates in
fundraising efforts for Relay for Life, March of Dimes and Light the Night.
She worked several years in a soup kitchen in her local community and
in a program to deliver Holiday meals to handicapped seniors.

Jeremy - Alameda, California
Jeremy is a junior at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee
majoring in Anthropology. This summer he was accepted into an
archaeological field school in Peru. He has applied to Tech for America
and hopes to work in this program after graduation. Jeremy has a strong
belief that exercise contributes significantly to his staying healthy. He is
the strength and conditioning captain for Vandy’s ultimate Frisbee team.
He enjoys weight training and would like to become a personal trainer as
well. Jeremy is a speaker for the CF Foundation and Make-A-Wish
Foundation and continues his work with the Cuban Jewish Connection.
At Vandy he is a teaching assistant, radio DJ, member of the steel drum
ensemble and math mentor to high school students.  This is Jeremy’s
second award from ENF.

Alexis - Warren, Michigan
Alexis is a freshman at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI
studying Psychology and Social Work. Fueled by a passion to help
others less fortunate Alexis intends to pursue a career in Social work.
She has gained 1st hand experience as a missionary in the NYC School
of Urban Ministry in summer ’09 and in South Africa in the Thrive Africa
program in summer ’10. After graduation from MSU she intends to get
further education in bible training and ultimately work in or establish
orphanages in Africa. In the meantime she will work in programs to help
people without hope, children without parents and in need of food,
clothing and shelter. Her message to all is “never give up and always
have faith”. Alexis is a National Honor Society member and a volunteer
in her church youth program.

Joseph - Cincinnati, Ohio
Joe is a sophomore at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He is
studying for a BA in Music with a minor in Music Media and Production.
This is Joe’s 2nd scholarship award from ENF. His career ambition is in
the area of music production and composition. Joe was 1st chair and
section leader of the Bass section for both the Orchestra and Chamber
Orchestra of his high school for two years. In his first year of college he
was in the pit for numerous orchestra performances. Joe has a number
of original compositions to his credit and is accomplished in guitar-
electric, rhythm, acoustic and bass. Joe has enjoyed playing in many
benefits performances in nursing homes and hospitals at Holiday time
and performed with his high school orchestra at Disney World. The
Flannery family continues their long time support for the CF Foundation
and this year included the Elizabeth Nash Foundation in their
fundraising efforts.

Jamie -  Lapeer, Michigan
Jamie is a sophomore at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI
majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Nutrition. This is Jamie’s
2nd scholarship award from ENF. Her goal continues to become a
personal trainer, which will benefit her health. She was a well recognized
cross country athlete in high school and has continued her running in
college on both the cross country team and the indoor/outdoor track
and field team. Jamie continues to be active in community and church
service. Most recently she became a volunteer for Urban Family
Ministries in Grand Rapids. She is a team leader and fundraiser for the
CF Foundation and fundraiser for the Lapeer Pregnancy Resource
Center.

Julia - Warren, Michigan
Julia is a sophomore majoring in Special Education at Michigan State
University in East Lansing, MI. Having CF has given Julia a strong
appreciation of life and its beauty, which she wants to share with others
less fortunate. She recently spoke at a CF Foundation fundraising event
and is inspired to do more to raise funds for research. Julia served on
the Family Advisory Board for Cystic Fibrosis at Detroit’s Children’s
Hospital of Michigan. The work of the Board was aimed at improving CF
care for both inpatient and out patient. She is currently a member of C.A.
R.E., which is planning an “elderly prom” at a senior home.       

Brad - Magee, Mississippi
Brad is studying for a Doctorate in Education Leadership with emphasis
on Curriculum and Instruction at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. He
previously earned a BS in Mathematics and MS (Masters in Education)
at Mississippi College. Brad taught at the middle and secondary school
level for the past 16 years. He wants to use this Doctoral education to
enter the administrative area to guide teachers in the best instructional
practices and classroom management strategies. His ultimate goal is to
improve student learning and retention. Brad has been honored as a
star teacher and teacher of the year. He served as media spokesperson
on the subject of raising educational standards in mathematics for the
State of Mississippi. Brad and his wife have three children. He has been
a Youth Minister in his church for many years.

Diana - Seaford, New York
Diana is in her final year of medical studies at New York College of
Osteopathic Medicine. This is her fourth ENF scholarship award. This
year she will complete her medical boards, finalize clinical rotations and
apply for residency. Diana enjoys working with children and is looking
forward to becoming a pediatrician. She remains active in the Pediatrics
club of NY College of Osteopathic Medicine, which again this year
prepared and served dinner to residents of the Ronald McDonald
House. This experience gives a different and first hand view of the
impact of illness on a child and their family. Diana and her family
continue to be active fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
(CFF) and she has spoken to various groups to raise CF awareness
and funds. Diana is a classical pianist and enjoys running and reading.

Julianne - Seven Hills, Ohio
Julianne is a junior at Tufts University in Medford, MA studying Biology
and Neuroscience. She is on course to complete all requirements for
either medical school or physician’s assistant school with the later most
likely. Julie has completed independent research on the potential use of
stem cells to treat disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis under the
mentorship of Case Western Reserve University Medical School and her
abstract on stem cell research was published in the Ohio Journal of
Science. She was a semi-finalist in the national Intel Science Talent
Search and placed third (Medicine and Health division) in the Intel
International Science and Engineering Fair.  Julie has completed the
EMT course and is pursuing certification. She is a ski racer, ski
instructor and ballroom dance competitor.   

Francisco - Fairfield, California
Frankie is a senior at the University of California at Berkeley majoring in
Integrated Biology. This is his fourth ENF scholarship award. After
graduation he would like to continue graduate studies to pursue either a
Ph.D. in microbiology or an MD. In either case he would like to work in a
research environment helping those suffering from chronic illness. This
summer he interned at a hematology-oncology laboratory at University
of California San Francisco. He also intends to take courses in
Education with the goal of teaching as part of his career. Frankie has
been diagnosed with leukemia which is in remission. He continues to
volunteer with the City of Berkeley coaching and training grammar
school children after school, and uses his personal experience to
mentor teens in dysfunctional family situations.                           

Casandra - Lapeer, Michigan
Casandra is in the final year of a Masters program in Voice Performance
at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. She earned her
Bachelors of Music, magna cum laude, at Western Michigan University.
This is Casandra’s fifth year as an ENF scholarship recipient. Her goal is
to become a professional opera performer. This summer she was a
participant in LaLingua della Lirica, an intensive training program for
young opera singers in Italy. She also has a thought to teach music and
voice at the college level at some time. Casandra continues to be active
in church service and community programs. She works as a vocal
instructor and wedding singer.

John - Suwanee, Georgia
John is a freshman at The University of Georgia in Athens, GA majoring
in pre pharmacy. His career goal is to work as a pharmacist in a hospital
setting and continue his family’s tradition of CF advocacy. John is a
participant in two CF research studies at his clinic. He helped establish
two CF fundraising programs in his community: Curefinders and Kids
Playing for a Cure Golf Tournament. He has recently become a speaker
at the annual CF Gala. John is a member of the National Honor Society.
He was captain of his HS soccer team and was awarded varsity letters in
soccer, football and swimming.

Christina - Mount Prospect, Illinois
Christina is a junior majoring in Secondary Education and English at
Loyola University in Chicago, IL. This is Christina’s second ENF
scholarship award. Her passion for learning, new knowledge and sense
of endless possibilities led Christina to the teaching profession. She
feels that each and every student has specific talents and it will be her
responsibility to help them reach their goals.  Christina has been active
in student ministry and currently plays the drums at masses and special
ceremonies. She is a regular participant in the CFF Great Strides walk.

William - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania
Will is enrolled in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Arcadia
University in Glenside, PA. He earned a BS in Biology - Exercise and
Sports Science at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. His goal is to
contribute to scientific progress by working in the research field in a
healthcare setting. Between undergrad and grad studies Will did original
research in the microbiology lab at Ursinus College. His research was in
the area of protein misfolding in yeast. He was a volunteer in 3 clinical
research studies at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Such
studies, which require considerable time commitments and discipline,
are critical to the development of science and pharmaceuticals towards
a cure for CF. He has instructed autistic children to scuba dive. Will is a
certified lead pharmacy technician and works 40 hours per week as
such. This is Will’s third ENF scholarship award.

Amanda - Canton, Michigan   
Amanda is a sophomore in the Honors College at Eastern Michigan
University in Ypsilanti, MI. She is majoring in Professional Chemistry and
last year was honored with the Outstanding Accomplishment in
Chemistry award.  She entered EMU with the goal of becoming a dentist,
but is now giving thought to a career in research while teaching at the
college level. Her goal would be CF research to help those affected to
lead as normal a life as possible. Amanda remains active in community
service and volunteers through the EMU community service program.
She lists her areas of service as the Salvation Army, fundraising for
Breast Cancer and Cystic Fibrosis, and working with local food banks.
Amanda has participated in CF clinical trials aimed at developing
improved medicines, treatments and ultimately a cure.

Molly - Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Molly is in her third year of a PhD program in Clinical Psychology at
Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA. She previously earned a
Masters degree in At Risk Education. This is her third ENF scholarship
award. Her Practicum this year is working at a local mental hospital with
people of various ages, who are suffering with a number of different
psychological disorders. She particularly enjoys working with
adolescents with drug and alcohol related issues. Molly spends time as
a tutor and mentor to students with difficulty in their academic and
personal life. She also enjoys researching and working with children with
autism and other disabilities. Molly cites improvement in her health this
year and credits an intense exercise regime including dance, weight
training, zumba, and yoga. Molly will be a team leader for the CFF Great
Strides walk again this year.
