Brandon - Mantorville, Minnesota
Brandon graduated Magna Cum Laude from Minnesota State University,
Moorhead, MN with a B.A. in Biology and minor in Chemistry.  He is now
in the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Wisconsin,La
Crosse. His experience as a CF patient has taught him compassion,
understanding and empathy. Brandon’s goal is to use these skills as a
Physician Assistant in cardiovascular or orthopedic surgery.  He has
been a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the past 22
years. In addition, he was captain of the track & field team at Minnesota
State University, Moorhead, volunteer in the health center emergency
room, and project volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

Dana - Portland, Oregon  
Dana is a senior at Portland State University, Portland, Oregon majoring
in Book Publishing and Translating. She minors in Italian and
Portuguese. Dana has a passion for foreign languages and culture and
hopes to channel that into a career as a book translator and perhaps
writing. Dana was an exchange student to Italy in 05-06 and during that
time was a member of the Italian Red Cross. She has also mentored  
Italian. Dana has been a team leader for the Great Strides walk for a
number of years and at various locations. This year she was the walk
coordinator in the Portland area.    

Diana - Seaford, New York
Diana is in her second year of a 4 year medical program at New York
College of Osteopathic Medicine. She plans to focus on Pediatrics as
well as Rehabilitation. This summer she shadowed pediatric physicians
who also practice rehabilitation. Diana is President of the Pediatrics Club
of NY College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has worked as a research
intern in the NY University Child Study Center where she conducted pre
and post evaluations of children and monitored their progress. Diana
has also pursued numerous volunteer projects including work as a tutor
to elementary school children and at Bellevue Hospital helping Spanish
speaking patients and assisting pediatricians. She and her family are
active fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) and have
raised in excess of $100,000 over the past ten years. Diana also spoke
at the recent CFF Breath of Life Gala.

Francisco - Fairfield, California
Frankie is a sophomore at the University of California at Berkeley
majoring in Integrated Biology. Frankie will be the first member of his
family to graduate from college and intends to work in the field of
medical research. One of Frankie’s goals is to help support his mother
and his younger brother & sister with their college educations. Frankie
volunteers with the City of Berkeley coaching and training grammar
school children after school. He also mentors teens in dysfunctional
family situations. This past year Frankie was diagnosed with leukemia
which he is fighting with the same vigor as his CF.     

James - Esperance, New York
James earned his B.S. in Adolescent Education – Special Studies and
History (dual major) from the State University of New York, Oneonta, NY.
He is now in the first year of a Masters program in History at the State
University of NY in Albany. His Masters work will focus on Russian
religious and cultural history. Upon completion James wants to teach at
the grades 7-12 level. His goal is to provide a positive role model, who
encourages and empowers his students. James has been active in the
CF community as a participant in Great Strides, an archery shoot
participant (CF fundraiser) for the past 7 years, and a mentor to
younger CF patients. In addition he has been a fundraiser for St. Jude’s
Hospital for Children for the past 3 years, an assistant scout master in
the Boy Scouts, and a member of the volunteer Ambulance Corps.   

Kristi - Minneapolis, Minnesota
Kristi is a junior at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis majoring in
Art education and Visual Art.  She is a returning adult student. Kristi
spent several years in foster care and has been on her own since 19
years of age. Her passion in life is art and she wants to share that by
becoming an art teacher as well as working as an artist. Kristi worked 4
years in an after school program for children from kindergarten to 6th
grade in the areas of math, reading and art. She is a fundraiser for both
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the CF Association of North Dakota.

Kyle - Chicago, Illinois
Kyle is a junior majoring in Finance and Marketing at DePaul University,
Chicago, IL. He enjoys working with people and intends to pursue a
career in business, primarily finance. Kyle has a strong interest in world
travel and experiencing different cultures. He has worked closely with
Children’s Memorial Hospital at Northwestern University on the subject of
nasogastric (NG) tube feeding in CF. He was featured in a booklet on
this subject a few years ago and is now working with the Memorial
Hospital CF center staff to produce an educational and instructional
video of NG tube feeding.

Luke - Elliott City, Maryland
Luke is a freshman Pre Med/Biology major at Grove City College Grove
City, PA. Luke has begun to prepare for a medical career through
studies in the Applied Health Academy as a high school student.  He
worked 8 hours per week in a clinical setting. Luke mentored with an  
orthopedic surgeon in an outpatient and ambulatory setting.  He has
been an active fundraiser for CFF for many years. He is a speaker at
CF events and has also filmed and presented a fundraiser video of life
with CF. Luke has been a volunteer for the Salvation Army at a
Baltimore soup kitchen at Christmas time. He was an all county
quarterback in high school. Luke went 48 – 0 as a starter and lead his
team to two state championships.

Molly - Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Molly graduated from Marion University in Fond du Lac, WI with a B.S. in
Psychology and then earned her Masters degree from Marion in the
field of At Risk Education. She is now enrolled in a PhD program in
clinical psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpenteria, CA.  
Molly’s strong religious beliefs and experience coping with a serious
illness have helped shape her goal to work with children and families in
at-risk situations. She is a member of the National At Risk Education
Network (NAREN). Molly volunteers in an after school program for young
children and for three summers worked as a bilingual teacher to 25
Hispanic children, ages 6-12, through United Migrant Opportunity
Services (UMOS). She has been a fundraiser for CFF, St. Jude’s
Hospital, MS, and Autism Awareness.

Rebecca - Cheshire, Massachusetts
Rebecca is a junior majoring in English Communications and Journalism
at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, North Adams, MA.  Her goal is
to become a high school English teacher. Rebecca’s role model is her
mom, who graduated with her B.S. in Journalism after many years of
night school. Rebecca has been a volunteer and kick off speaker for the
CFF Great Strides fundraiser in Berkshire for the past 11 years. She
has appeared on Public TV to speak on “The Effects of Living with CF”.  
She also has been a volunteer for the Jimmy Fund (childhood cancer)
for a number of years.  Rebecca enjoys dancing and is the
choreographer for the Mass College of Liberal Arts Dance Company.

Scott - West Orange, New Jersey
Scott graduated with a B.S. in Ecology and Natural Resources from
Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.  He is now in the 2nd year of a
Masters program in Biology and Evolution at Montclair State University in
Montclair, NJ. Scott is an ardent outdoor enthusiast who plans to use his
education and talent to conserve and protect precious natural
resources. He is a member of the Student Conversation Association (
SCA) and has over 1300 hours of conservation oriented volunteer work
to his credit. He is also a member of the SCA Alumni Editorial Board.  
This year he received a grant from the Massachusetts Endangered
Species and Natural Heritage Program to support the purchase of
equipment and materials related to his thesis research. Scott has been
active in CF fundraising since childhood.

Sheldon - Marlborough, Massachusetts
Sheldon is a sophomore Art Education major at the University of
Massachusetts, North Dartmouth. He is motivated by CF to achieve
beyond what might be expected and to reach goals that seem
unobtainable. He hopes to bring this perspective to his own classroom
as an Art Educator. He was elected class of 2012 representative to the
Student Senate at U Mass Dartmouth. Sheldon has been recognized for
the education and awareness work he does in the field of CF. He has
spoken to high  school genetics and biology classes, U Mass Dartmouth,
Quinsigamond Community College, and U Mass Memorial Hospital
Medical School. He has been a volunteer in Great Strides for 17 years
and a participant in Relay for Life and Habitat for Humanity.

William - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania
Will is a senior at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA double majoring in
Biology, and Exercise and Sport Science. His personal experience
fighting CF with exercise has helped shape his goal to earn his DPT
(Doctor of Physical Training) and become a Physical Therapist.  Will has
worked the past 2 years in the sports department for Ursinus.  He is
trained in both First Aid and CPR, which qualifies him as a first
responder to injured athletes on the field.  Will’s service to Cystic
Fibrosis takes the  role of participation in clinical research studies.
Clinical studies require considerable time commitment and discipline and
are critical to the development of science and pharmaceuticals towards
a cure for CF.
